The City Hall of Bucharest (PMB) reminds drivers of old and polluting cars that from January 1 they have to pay a tax to travel through Bucharest. In the first two months, however, the City Hall leaves the purchase of the vignette to the citizens, while fines in case of non-compliance will be applied from March, according to Ziare.com.

PMB has announced since the summer of 2019 that it wants to introduce a tax for very polluting cars running in Bucharest. The purpose of the tax – the ones from the local administration continuously argued – would not be to collect money from the local budget, but to decongest the traffic.

Specifically, the administration of the Capital considered that, after the introduction of the vignette, the Bucharest residents might consider it more advantageous to travel by public transport.
