The head of the Environmental Guard, Gabiela Dorojan, was replaced. The Minister of the Environment, Costel Alexe, announced that following the discussion with Dorojan they have come to the conclusion that “it is advisable that she no longer occupies” the position of General Commissioner of the National Environmental Guard.

“Following the recent discussions with the Commissioner General, Gabriela Dorojan, we jointly agreed that it is appropriate to end the role of General Commissioner of the National Environmental Guard, a proposal that will be advanced to the Government of Romania,” wrote the Minister of Environment on Facebook, according to Adevărul.ro.

He says that on Thursday morning he asked the National Commissioner of the Environmental Guard the plan of monitoring and control actions that the National Environmental Guard has ordered during 2014-2019 for Brasov, Bucharest and Iasi. “Reducing pollution, improving air quality and increasing the quality of life remain the foundations of this mandate!”, adds Alexe.

Gabriela Dorojan was appointed as General Commissioner of the National Environmental Guard, with the rank of Secretary of State, in March 2018 , by a decision of the then Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă. Earlier (since February 2013), Dorojan was executive director of the Ilfov Environmental Protection Agency.
