The current account deficit increased by 84% in the first two months of 2020

The deficit of the current account of the balance of payments increased by 84.65% in the first two months of this year, to 325 million euro, compared to the one of the similar period of 2019, of 176 million euro, according to a statement of the National Bank of Romania.

According to NBR data, in the structure, the balance of goods recorded a larger deficit with 240 million euro, the balance of services registered a smaller surplus by 123 million, the balance of primary incomes registered a larger surplus with 88 million of euro, and the balance of secondary incomes registered a surplus with 126 million euro, according to Agerpres.

Between January and February 2020, total external debt increased by 4.748 billion euro. In the structure, the long-term external debt totaled 77.997 billion euro as of February 29, 2020 (70.5% of total external debt), increasing by 5.9% as of December 31, 2019.

The short-term external debt recorded at February 29, 2020 the level of 32.624 billion euro (29.5% of the total external debt), increasing by 1.2% compared to December 31, 2019.
