Russia, India sign contract for design of third stage of Kudankulam NPP

According to Atomstroyexport group, Russia and India have signed contracts on design of the third stage of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant. Russia and India have signed contracts on design of the third stage (units five and six) of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant and supplies of equipment for it, Atomstroyexport (ASE) group said on Tuesday, conform Sputnik.

On July 31, 2017, Atomstroyexport and Nuclear Power Corporation of India signed contracts on first-stage design works, working design and supplies of main equipment for the third stage of the Kudankulam NPP, the company said in a statement. According to ASE Group Vice President for South Asia Projects Andrey Lebedev, the active work on the fifth and sixth units is kicking off. “The planning and procurement process of the core Russian-made equipment to supply the third stage of the Indian power plant is beginning,” Lebedev said, as quoted in the statement.

In June, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Russia and India signed an inter-governmental credit protocol needed to implement the project as well as a general framework agreement on the construction of the third stage of the power plant with Russia’s participation.

In July, Rosatom, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Finance and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India board of directors approved three key agreements on the construction of the plant.
