Romania’s mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market reached 200-300 million euro in the first quarter of the year, including silent transactions, while on the basis of public sources, the transactions whose value was communicated totaled 120 million euro, according to Deloitte. The market fell from EUR 258 million, the recorded value of the transactions reported in Q1-2018.

“Although the figures suggest a decrease in activity, we believe that in the particular situation of this beginning of the year, we are talking about an extension of ongoing processes that we expect to materialize in the coming period. The market still offers opportunities for both consultants and owners interested in selling. We see exit initiatives of business owners who want to benefit from this window of opportunity and which we believe will be successful,” says Ioana Filipescu, M&A Consultant, Deloitte Romania.

The number of transactions monitored in the first quarter was 15, of which only two had the officially announced value, compared to 19 last year. The trend in recent years not to publicize the value of transactions has increased at this beginning of the year. In the same period of 2018, a total of 20 transactions were accounted for, of which seven had a disclosed value.
