OMV Petrom has installed photovoltaic panels in 33 gas stations in the OMV network and in 7 stations in the Petrom network to supply them with green energy and to reduce conventional energy consumption. By installing photovoltaic panels, over 10% of the electricity needs of the stations are generated from solar energy. The investment in this project amounts to 1.3 million euros.

“We have a continuing concern to reduce our carbon footprint in all business segments, including refining and distribution. This year we continued our environmentally friendly initiatives, including the installation of photovoltaic panels in gas stations. Our plan is to increase to 78 the number of filling stations equipped with photovoltaic panels by the end of the year,” says Radu Căprău, member of the Management Board of OMV Petrom responsible for the Downstream Oil activity.

Photovoltaic panels produce, annually per station, over 30,000 kWh of green energy.

With the help of energy produced by photovoltaic panels, each station will help reduce its carbon footprint by 8.3 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. Basically, the carbon reductions in the 40 stations are equivalent to recycling more than 3 million plastic recipients.

The measures adopted at the company level for a cleaner environment generated, in 2019, a 22% decrease in the amount of carbon emissions compared to 2010. The company’s goal is to reach, by 2025, a reduction of 27%.
