Romania imported in May 2019 a quantity of gas of 1,185,490 MWh, 354 times more than in the same month last year, according to the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE), analyzed by Agerpres.

In May 2018, Romania imported only 3.353 MWh.

Energy suppliers could raise gas prices this Autumn by 10%

In April 2019, imported gas quantities were 100 times higher than in April 2018.

At the same time, the average price of imported gas in May 2019 was 89 lei per MWh, according to ANRE data, by 12% lower than that of the Romanian gas traded on the stock exchange (101 lei per MWh), according to the BRM Commodities Exchange.

GEO 114/2018, approved in December 2018, fixed at 68 lei per MWh, for the next three years, the price for the whole domestic gas production. GEO 19/2019, approved in March 2019, amended this provision, leaving only fixed quantities of gas for household consumers and thermal power plants at fixed prices starting May 1.

This has led to an increase in the price of domestic production gas for industrial consumers, which are traded on the stock exchange, so that economic agents prefer to import rather than buy Romanian gas.
