INS: Last year, environmental protection expenditures totaled 1.5% of GDP

The expenditures for environmental protection at national level were, in 2019, of approximately 16 billion lei, representing 1.5% of GDP, informs the National Institute of Statistics.

At national level, the highest expenditures for environmental protection were registered in the field of waste management at specialized producers, representing 73.1% of the total expenditures in the field of waste management.

Also, at national level, the largest investments for environmental protection were registered in the field of wastewater management in the public administration, representing 83.7% of the total investments in the field of wastewater management, according to Agerpres.

According to the INS, at national level the share of public administration investments represented 54.6% in the total investments for environmental protection, followed by those of investments of non-specialized producers (32.9%) and investments of specialized producers (12.5%). Of the environmental protection expenditures of non-specialized producers, in the field of “production and supply of electricity and heat, gas and hot water” were recorded 29.9%, while in the sector “manufacturing industry” were achieved 24.5%, and the “extractive industry” sector spent 19.3%.

By environmental areas, the highest expenditures were registered for waste management, 42% of the total expenditures for environmental protection at national level, followed by expenditures for air and climate protection (19.8%) and expenditures for wastewater management (19.7%).
