Although the Romanian car market decreased in the first half of the year (H1) by almost 32% compared to the same period in 2019, the category of “green” cars¬- electric (respectively 100% electric and hybrid plug -in), as well as the hybrids (which have electric propulsion without charging from an external source) registered, in the analyzed period, a surge in sales (+2.7%) compared to the similar period of last year, according to the Association of Car Manufacturers and Importers (APIA).

By subcategories, there is an increase of 31.6% for full electric cars and a much more consistent one, of 107.8%, for hybrid plug-ins. On the other hand, hybrid cars that also have an electric propulsion posted after the first 6 months of 2020 a decrease of 9.2%, according to Agerpres.

“In the future, green car purchases are expected to record significantly higher volumes than the previous year, and are largely driven up by the Rabla Plus Program, which has made a significant contribution to the growth in sales of electric cars, also having a favorable impact again in 2020. The claim is supported by the fact that, at this time, the program has more than 1,000 electric and plug-in car reservations compared to only 640 last year,” according to APIA’s release.
