The government is working to extend the deadline for submitting documentation for accessing the state aid scheme from 7 to 30 days, says Daniela Nicolescu, secretary of state within MEEMA. The Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Environment has approved a state aid scheme to support industrial energy consumers, with a total value of approximately 290 million euros. The first beneficiaries have already received the money, and the technical team within the ministry has made great efforts to solve the blockages and supported the companies that encountered difficulties in completing the files, said the state secretary Dan Dragoș Drăgan.

“We want to support the metallurgical industry and strengthen the internal market, which is the trend at European level. Each Member State is trying to encourage the internal market to support companies in the country, especially now, in the context of the pandemic, when everyone is facing economic difficulties. I want to start a dialogue today that we can continue in the next period. I want to identify together solutions based on the proposals you have to reduce as much as possible the negative effects of this crisis, but also the ways in which I and my colleagues from the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Business Environment can help you at legislative level,” said Daniela Nicolescu, MEEMA state secretary.

The situation of the metallurgical industry is a constant concern both at national and European and global level, being analyzed and trying to find solutions in the European Commission (Competitiveness Council), in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and in meetings of G7 and G20. The products of the metallurgical industry form the basis for key industrial economic value chains, such as the automotive industry, construction, mechanical engineering, and the energy industry. Maintaining a competitive metallurgical production plays a strategic role in ensuring growth and jobs.
