Energy complexes (EC) Hunedoara and Oltenia “should be kept”, said the Minister for Energy, SMEs and Business, Andrei Gerea. “These two components of the energy system have a great importance for the stability of electricity supply and also to balance the system. (…) So we cannot throw ourselves in one direction, Romania needs a balanced design. I know there are costs, I know there are serious problems (…), but we have to keep these facilities, we must find the best solutions for Romania’s energy security”, said the Energy Minister.

Gerea said that restructurings required by international financial partners at EC Hunedoara and Oltenia are necessary, but they should be made taking into account the energy security of Romania.

“Regarding the two energy complexes, things are clear, we must have had a complete analysis, to tell us where we are going with restructuring. It was not done so far, the new team from the ministry will need to do it, is due one month to come up with a timetable to say what needs to be done there. From our point of view, the team from the Ministry of Energy, we know that restructuring should be made, but not in any way. (…) The main element that should concern us is Romania’s energy security”, said Gerea, according to Agerpres.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced on February 10 that the government has not agreed with international financial partners about increasing the price of natural gas and restructuring of energy complexes Hunedoara and Oltenia, which is why there will not be signed another letter of intent, adding that the rest of the objectives are met. According to the Premier, the agreement is in force and the two issues will be discussed again in April.
