On Thursday, December 12, the energy community, together with the grieving family, took its last farewell from Florin Ciocănelea, one of the most influential personalities who contributed for over three decades to the evolution of the oil and gas sector in Romania.

A graduate of the University of Oil and Gas in Ploiești in 1986, specializing in oil and gas drilling and production, Florin Ciocănelea has been active in this industry in various positions over time. He started working at the Poeni Oil Production unit in Teleorman County, and seven years later he was promoted as the main field engineer in the Petrom company, where he held management positions until 2004.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of BRM (2001-2004), member of the Board of Directors of Petromservice (2004-2005), chairman of the Board of Directors of Foserco (2005-2009), member of the Board of Directors of the Grup Servicii Petroliere (2005-2018).

From 2010 to 2015 he was a representative of Melrose Resources, and from 2016 to 2018 he was a representative of Local Bankers Petroleum Canada and director of Panbridge SRL, the local branch of Bankers Petroleum.

Since March 2018, as the energy adviser to Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă, among many highly important topics, Florin Ciocănelea has worked to clarify the legislative framework and to relaunch the local oil and gas industry.

On December 6, a ruthless illness ended a long career and the dedication to the Romanian energy industry, which Florin Ciocănelea proved without mistake.

Our sincere condolences to the family! May God rest his soul!
