Energy spot price, up 45% in December 2020, compared to the similar period of 2019

The price of energy on the spot market of the OPCOM exchange (Next Day Market – DAM) had an average of 284.3 lei per MWh in December last year, 45.5% more than the price recorded in the same month of 2019, according to the data posted on the stock exchange operator’s website.

The total value of transactions was of 627.7 million lei, increasing by 47% compared to December 2019.

Also, the volume of transactions increased by 2.2%, up to 2.1 million MWh.

The market share of DAM remained the same, of 41%. In other words, almost half of the country’s net energy consumption was traded on DAM in December, according to Agerpres.

About 367 participants were registered on the OPCOM spot market, of which 288 were active.

The Day Ahead Market (DAM) is a component of the wholesale electricity market on which firm hourly electricity transactions are made with delivery on the day following the trading day.

Since 2014, the DAM in Romania has been operating in conjunction with similar markets in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
