Electricity spot price continues its upward trend

The energy price on the spot market of the OPCOM stock exchange (Day Ahead Market – DAM) had an average of 222.7 lei per MWh in September of this year, according to the data posted on the stock exchange operator’s website.

The average market closing price in September was 22.5% lower than the price recorded in the same month last year, but 21.5% higher than in the previous month – August 2020. In fact, September is the fourth consecutive month of this year when there was an increase in the spot price, as a monthly variation, according to e-nergia.ro.

The total value of transactions was of 556 million lei, down 30% compared to September 2019, but 13% higher than the value of the previous month, August 2020.

The volume of transactions was decreasing compared to the same month last year, by 6.7%, to 1.72 million MWh. Compared to the previous month, the volume is also about 6.6% lower.

However, the share of DAM decreased, reaching below 40% of the total market – 39.53% in September 2020.

About 365 participants were registered on the OPCOM spot market, of which 286 were active.
