EDP Renewables, a global leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the largest wind energy producers in the world, present in 14 countries, helped five local communities by donating 50,000 euro to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. The EDPR company together with “Save the Children” (“Salvați Copiii”) and “Hello, Children from Romania”(“Bună ziua, Copiii din România”) helped each community with 10,000 euro each, with the aim to mitigate the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

This aid was distributed in five communes in three counties in Romania and consisted of several initiatives: from the food bank, the purchase of medical equipment, medical devices and rapid test kits, to digital technology (computers, tablets, etc.) to facilitate online learning. Together with the two NGOs, a study of the needs of each community was carried out to ensure the most efficient use of this aid.

“We have a significant impact on the local energy sector and we also want to have significant support to help local communities fight the effects of this pandemic. Our help will be used to purchase disinfectants, medical equipment and digital education devices to facilitate the online learning of children in our communities with whom we work. In these difficult times, we must be close and offer all our support to these communities,” said Eduardo Nieto, General Manager of EDPR Romania.

EDP Renewables’ 800,000 euro contribution to the fight against Covid-19 is part of an amount of over 5 million euro distributed worldwide by the EDP group, in markets such as Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, USA, France, Greece , Italy, Poland and Portugal.
