European Week for Sustainable Development is marked at the level of the E.ON Group, from 21 September to 2 October, through a series of actions demonstrating the Group’s commitment to a greener future by reducing carbon emissions and encouraging a healthy lifestyle, using, among other things, environmentally friendly transport solutions, energy from renewable sources or recyclable materials.

E.ON plays a central role in sustainable development, being the largest network operator in Europe involved in the green energy revolution, with 50 million customers and around 70,000 employees across Europe. The company intends to reduce emissions that it can directly influence and become climate neutral by 2040. The E.ON Group recently stated its support for the European Commission’s initiative to reduce EU-wide greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030, compared to 40% – the original target.

Inside the European Sustainable Development Week, E.ON organizes a series of activities specific to each regional company in the Group (Germany, Sweden, England, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy and Romania), which aim to be an example for the community in terms of environmental protection and, at the same time, to offer sustainable solutions for customers. For example, in Brussels, E.ON organizes a market of local products, thus encouraging sustainable and ecological agriculture.

Under the same auspices, E.ON employees from Romania participated in Târgu Mureș, at the charity event “Pedal for a good purpose”, organized by the Mureș Community Foundation, which aimed to raise funds for children and young people with cancer within Clinical Department of Pediatrics in Târgu Mureș.
”Our colleagues had to cycle for 3-4 hours, through this action supporting the volunteers of the Little People Mureș Association, which organizes therapeutic and educational activities for all over 100 patients currently hospitalized in Târgu Mureș.”

In Biertan (Sibiu County) E.ON inaugurated, together with the Tășuleasa Association, 115 km of Via Transilvanica, 100 km of roads and paths being built with the support of E.ON. ”We set out to support the arrangement of another 100 kilometers, involving customers in this endeavor: for each activated E.ON electronic invoice, one meter of this road will be arranged, 100,000 activated electronic invoices meaning an additional 100 kilometers on Via Transilvanica,” company officials added.

Also, with the Support of the Act for Tomorrow Association, employees of E.ON Romania companies will participate in online workshops where they will learn how to contribute to a cleaner environment, reducing the amount of waste resulting daily, but also through selective collection of waste for recycling.
