More than 250,000 students and thousands of teachers do not have computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones, according to a preliminary estimate, but it is difficult to have the exact figure as there is no official centralizing statistics yet. The figures could be even higher than that, if we take into account that, statistically, over a third (38.1%) of Romania’s children grow up in families at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

All these students were removed from the educational process with the suspension of classes on March 11, due to the coronavirus pandemic. For them, online school is not possible, not because they do not want to continue learning from home, but because they have no way to keep in touch with teachers. Computers, tablets or mobile phones are luxury goods that the families they come from cannot afford. That’s why E.ON decided to get involved and lend a hand to these children.

“We want these laptops to reach students who need them most quickly. Of course, the number of those who do not have computers, laptops or tablets at home is very high, but we believe that little by little, through the contribution and involvement of all, we can manage to bring as many students online,” says Manfred Paasch, CEO, E.ON Romania.

The laptops donated by E.ON will reach the students who will be the subject of the most emotional stories received from the family, from those close to them or from the teachers, on the company’s social media page.
