Distribution operators will install over 4 million smart meters in 10 years

ANRE has published the draft timetable for smart electricity metering systems (SMIs) at national level for the period 2019-2028.

According to the calendar, e-Distribution Muntenia will install 79,055 more smart meters in 2019, the largest number among distribution operators, and will reach a share of 16% of its total customers. The highest share is to be achieved this year by Delgaz Grid (20%), which will integrate more than 17,500 of its customers into the smart metering system. e-Distribuție Banat will install SMIs to nearly 50,000 customers in 2019, with SMI’s share reaching 15% of total customers at the end of the year. e-Distribuție Dobrogea will install a comparable number of smart meters – 42,414 – in 2019 to reach 18% at the end of the year.

For the distribution operators in Electrica group this year is planned installation of less than 10,000 smart meters in each of their three operating areas – Muntenia Nord, Transilvania Nord and Transilvania Sud.

For the 2028 horizon, no operator will have less than 33% of its customers integrated into the smart metering system. According to the ANRE calendar, the operators within Enel – e-Distribuție Banat, e-Distribuție Dobrogea and e-Distribuție Muntenia will have the highest shares: 60%, 70% and 65%, respectively.

In total, within 10 years, the electricity distribution operators will install over 4 million smart meters in Romania.
