The Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Costel Alexe, said that the extension of the natural gas network in Romania represents a necessity for the population, but, at the same time, “reduces the pressure on Romania’s forests”.

He said that Romania needs resources from the European Union budget to increase the degree of connection of households to the gas network, according to Agerpres.

“Because we are in Iasi County, where today we have real problems in supplying homes with natural gas, we hope… that in the next financial year, in addition to these 900 million euro, Romania will benefit from resources for expansion and modernizing the gas networks. As the Minister of the Environment, I am more happy because we are reducing the pressure on Romania’s forests, and our county, like the whole of Moldova, has this problem. As you well know, compared to other European countries, Romania, with a 36% degree of connection is far below Hungary, which is at 90%, or the Republic of Moldova, which is at 76%,” Alexe also stated.
