The digital transformation, perceived today as an accelerated process, has actually started a long time ago, and the SCADA applications that companies implement today already have a very long history. Now, digitalization is changing both the equipment and the teams that make it. Addressing especially the decision-makers in the government, Corina Truică stressed that “in order to develop major energy projects, we need a very strong horizontal industry.”

“The first SCADA application integrated by Automatica was made in the 1980s, in Krivoi Rog. Obviously, today we have more tools to develop such solutions – but in about 10 years, engineers will look at our generation just as we look at those in the ’80s. We are in the middle of a process, we are constantly looking back, but we must also look to the future. The digital transformation has changed important concepts, such as the energy market; until 10 years ago they were national markets until yesterday we had regional markets, now we already have a European market, to some extent, and things are evolving”, said Corina Truică, CEO, Automatica, during the 7th edition of the Energy Strategy Summit, an event organized by Energynomics.

“Another concept that has also changed under the impact of the digital transformation is energy security. Here comes a very important factor, that of cyber threats. If until 10 years ago a very important factor was security of supply, today cyber-attacks are much more worrying. Even supply and demand have become relative concepts, and without digital we would not be able to manage this situation when prosumers intervene on both sides of the market, a beneficial phenomenon, because it gives us more flexibility, said Corina Truică.

At the same time, the behavior of market players determines how we design new equipment. “We can implement digital solutions much faster and we are willing to do it. Resistance to change has diminished greatly. On the other hand, we need to further integrate the social sciences into the product development process. We need to understand the psychology of the people we want to help. We need concepts from sociology, to develop smart cities and economics, from a broader perspective than the one strictly offered by the profit and loss account or by macro-economic data”, added Corina Truică.

2021 Energy Strategy Summit was organized by Energynomics, with the support of Automatica, BCR, CE Oltenia, Chimcomplex, E.ON România, Electrica Furnizare, Electroalfa, EnergoBit, Enevo Group, FPPG, Greencells, Horvath & Partners, ING Bank, Hidroelectrica, MET România Energy, Nuclearelectrica, OMV Petrom, Photomate, Rolls Royce, Romgaz, Schneider Electric, Signify, Transgaz.
