Electrica aims to invest in fast-start gas power plants to balance its electricity production from renewable sources, said Corina Popescu, CEO of Electrica.

“I can’t talk about concrete projects, being a listed company, but only about our strategy. We are also looking at some gas-fired power plants to balance our renewable energy production, maybe with a quick start,” she said.

According to her, solutions are needed to balance the production of renewables, and for Romania, these solutions will be based on gas.

“For the successful liberalization of the market, we need a developed wholesale market and interconnection between countries. Including the gas market,” Popescu said, according to Agerpres.

She said that from now on, the electricity and gas markets will be interconnected, and what will happen to one will affect the other.

“We have to look at the system as a whole, in order to be able to invest smartly, to develop the infrastructure. They are like little pieces of the puzzle. In order to achieve security of supply and sustainable prices for consumers, I believe that if we align these strategies, we will be able to meet our obligations to the EU and protect consumers and provide them with optimal services.”
