The Council of the City Hall has adopted the project for charging polluting cars circulating in Bucharest. Thus, it is introduced the OXYGEN vignette, starting on January 1, 2020, for cars below Euro 4. Vehicles with propulsion under Euro 3 will no longer have access to the center city. Euro 4 cars will pay the vignette starting from 2021.

OXYGEN vignette, the amount of which will differ depending on the pollution norm, will be mandatory, under the risk of a fine. In the central area, highly polluting vehicles will no longer be allowed to drive at all. Non-Euro, Euro 1 and Euro 2 cars will no longer be allowed in Bucharest from January 1, 2022, and for Euro 3 the restriction is valid from 2024. Scooters and motorcycles are exempt from payment, but also vehicles with the Euro 3 pollution norm, which works with LNG, CNG and LPG.

Electric, hybrid or polluting cars Euro 5 and Euro 6 will have unrestricted access on all arteries.

Drivers driving without the appropriate vignette will be fined from 1,500 to 2,000 lei.

For cars under Euro 3 the vignette will be 15 lei per day, and for those Euro 3 and 4 – 5 lei per day.
