The price of car fuels sold by Petrom climbed by more than 1% as against February 4th, in the fourth week of rising prices in the last five. Since January 7th, gasoline prices raised by more than 4%, while diesel prices increased by almost 6%. In case of diesel, there are five consecutive weeks of increase, with a total advance of 5.81% compared to January 7. In the past week, gasoline and diesel prices grew in all eight stations monitored by energynomics.ro; in each city the prices are now at the maximum of the year.

Constanta had the most significant gasoline price advance in the last week – 1.58%; with 5.14 lei/liter, this is still the cheapest option among the monitored cities.

The same trends manifest in case of diesels, with the biggest weekly increase in Constanța (1.11%), and similar variations in all cities, between 1.06% and 1.08%. Bucharest and Brasov are the most expensive options: 5.72 lei/liter. Since January 1, the diesel prices have increased by 5.93%, in Bucharest (0.32 lei per liter), while the fastest increases happened in Cluj-Napoca (6.17%, 0.33 lei per liter) and Oradea (6.4%, 0.34 lei per liter).

In part, the car fuels prices have increased following the entry into force, on January 1st, of two normative acts: indexation of excises with the inflation rate, respectively the increase of the mandatory content of biofuels in gasoline and diesel. Another important factor is the decline suffered by the Romanian currency; since the beginning of the year the leu lost 1.73% compared to the euro, according to the NBR exchange rate, although it gained 0.15% last week. The loss against the dollar, more relevant for the car fuels prices, is now at 2,73% compared to the beginning of the year, as the leu lost more the 1% last week.

Over the last week, crude oil prices in international markets have declined last week, by 4.36% in case of WTI (51.19 dollars per barrel, today), and by 1.37% in case of Brent (61.90 dollars per barrel, today). Since the end of 2018, the WTI crude oil price has risen by 15.11% and the Brent benchmark has risen by 16.33%.
