Almost 84% of the Ministry of Energy budget goes for the Iernut project

The budget for Ministry of Energy will be 0.057% of GDP, in 2017, according to the Government proposal, submitted for debate in Parliament. The total amount is 467 million lei, with 210 million lei less than in 2016.

Three of the main objectives to be funded are related to the mining sector, but the highest amount is allocated for building the combined cycle gas turbine at Iernut:

  • Rehabilitation and modernization of block 4 of Rovinari, Energy Complex Oltenia (61 million lei)
  • Rehabilitation and modernization of building 7 on Isalnita, Energy Complex Oltenia (33 million lei)
  • Building the combined cycle gas turbine at Iernut, Romgaz (391 million lei)
  • Lignite production revitalization in Jilt South and Jiu Rosia (14.5 million lei)

Government adopted on Monday the draft law on the state budget and state social insurance budget, which were conceived within a budgetary deficit of 3% of GDP. The amount allocated for investment is 39.4 billion (4.84% of GDP), with 10 billion lei more than last year, says the Government. Parliament decided that the final vote will take place on Tuesday, in the first part of the day, and afterwards, the bill will be sent to the Presidency for promulgation.

Ministry of Economy could receive 302 million lei (0.037% of GDP), with an increase of 119 million, compared to 2016. Among the main objectives to be financed is the national program of geological research aimed at discovering new deposits (5 million lei).

Ministry of Environment has an allocation of 471 million lei (0.057% of GDP), 73 million more than in 2016. Among the priorities assumed by the ministry there are proceeding with the scrappage and Casa Verde programs, and also the initiatives for endowment and awareness on selective waste collection.

Ministry of Research and Innovation anticipates that completing a generation 4 reactor, under the “Alfred” project, will create 2,300 new jobs. The project is one of the priorities of the ministry, which could receive, in 2017, 1.76 billion lei (0.22% of GDP). Financing ELI Project – High Power Laser and Laser Valley development area are also in the forefront for the ministry this year.
