I do not expect the liberalization of the electricity market from 1 January 2021 to bring significant problems or changes, said Ion Lungu, president of the Association of Electricity Suppliers in Romania – AFEER, at the Energynomics conference “The Future of Utilities – challenges and opportunities”. “The liberalization of the electricity market from January 1, 2021 is in fact a return to the situation before the famous GEO 114/2018. Things were going very well, so I don’t expect major problems or changes in 2021, especially as liberalization is more likely to succeed when the price trend is stable or slightly declining”, he explained.

In the opinion of the President of AFEER, we must take into account that the total liberalization of the market transfers benefits to all market participants, “which implies a fair price included in a complex package of services”. He insisted on correctly informing consumers when in the process of changing suppliers. „The information can be obtained from authorized sources, respectively the ANRE website and those of the companies in the field. It is not only the price of energy that matters, the consumer must look carefully at the contractual conditions, because, as a rule, the energy supplier also comes with a package of services “, the representative of the energy suppliers also said.

AFEER will continue its consumer information campaign under the motto “An informed consumer is a protected consumer” and will set up a Consumer Information Center. “Information must be delivered to the consumer in a simple and unambiguous language,” said Ion Lungu, adding that the Association aims to also “get involved in resolving disputes, at some point.”
