In an effort to meet the challenges of urban pollution and lower carbon emissions, the online retailer eMAG, together with Sameday, the majority-owned courier company, launches, for the first time in the Romanian market, the eMAG Green Delivery service, based on delivery with 100% electric cars. The company plans to purchase about 70 Nissan e-NV200 Van models, the list price of which is of around 35,000 euros, VAT included. Given the eco-label Rabla Plus, a subsidy of 10,000 euro, the cost of a model can thus go down to about 25,000 euro, which would figure the future investment of eMAG to almost 1.75 million euro, according to energynomics.ro calculations.

The new service will be active for the planned delivery in Bucharest and Ilfov County, at an initial stage, following to be extended in two months and for feeding the easybox network, according to a press release received by energynomics.ro.

“We are concerned about what we are leaving behind, and through this investment we come to the support of our clients interested in the health of the environment and thus we continue our efforts to build a responsible business model. Together with Sameday, we aim to reach 70 vehicles, 100% electric, in the next six months and gradually reduce the carbon footprint we leave in the environment,” says Radu Ilinof, Customer Experience director, eMAG.

At first, the eMAG Green Delivery will include six Nissan E-NV200 cars, each with a capacity of over 200 packages and a range of 200-300 km. Electric car charging stations are powered by 100% green energy, the company says.

This is not the first initiative eMAG has in the direction of developing a sustainable business. Through the easybox network, eMAG helps reduce the consumption of carbon dioxide due to the smaller number of trips by a car to deliver orders. According to studies, lifting a parcel through easybox reduces carbon dioxide consumption by at least 20.5% compared to the traditional method of parcel delivery through courier services.

Moreover, if for each parcel delivered through the courier companies, about 300g of carbon dioxide is produced, a parcel loaded in a locker system implies a consumption of only 14g of carbon dioxide. In fact, fuel consumption is also significantly reduced in the use of delivery through the locker system (0.01l / package), while delivery by conventional courier service implies a consumption of 0.23l of fuel per package.

At the same time, the eMAG warehouses from Joița and Chitila have been supplied, since the beginning of this year, with 100% green energy.
